Is Picking At Skin SH?
I pick the skin on my face a lot and also my scalp. It isn't that it's itchy or anything I just scratch at a spot until I can peel the skin/scalp off where I was scratching. It sounds kinda weird but I do this and chew my nails to the point where they're bleeding every day and are always causing a lot of pain but I can't stop. I know people say a lot that cutting isn't the only form of SH and I do have depression and actually cut often so I was wondering if they were connected somehow

Yes it is. There's a specific name for it which I forget.

dermatillomania, I suffer from it but I had to stop doing it since it led me to cutting and burning. Not worth

I also have dermatillomania. I don't consider it self-harm but other people might disagree. I'm tired of my shirts having blood spots all over the back and shoulders. They won't come off in the wash. My husband said I should start wearing dark colors so the blood doesn't show. I originally started picking because people called me a toad in school for having acne. I got so neurotic that I had to claw off the zits. Generally the things I pick at start off as small bumps and imperfections in the skin, then they turn into scabs that never heal because I keep tearing them open.

I'd say so. I pick the skin on my feet.

In my opinion, motivation is an important factor. I tear my skin in order to feel the pain. I think that it just depends on severity and why a person does it. It definitely can be self harm, but it can also just be a habit that comes from boredom or nervousness. I've done both.
