I'm about a third of the way through Dracula and loving it. After years of vampires being portrayed as nothing but sex gods with sharp teeth, it's so refreshing to have a legitimately scary vampire. The captain's log is particularly chilling...
Just finished reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy. It was a set book for class so i never would have just picked it up. But it was actually pretty good. The last page I nearly started to cry.
It became like a sort of prison. Encased in a silver shell, words so full of bleeding need spilled like drops on dry leaves. And all the while laughter prevailed a long way from here. Nowhere land, nowhere time, nowhere space.
I'm reading Dracula too. And Harry Potter 6 at night because Dracula is scary! :P
"I know you're sad, so I won't tell you to have a good day. Instead, I advise you to simply have a day.
Stay alive, feed yourself well, wear comfortable clothes, and don't give up on yourself just yet.
It'll get better. Until then, have a day."
Postcards From the Edge by Carrie Fisher which is insanely funny and I think she should write more.
And
Between the Bridge and the River by Craig Ferguson. Also funny...who would have thought a foul mouthed scotsman turned creepy, vulgar, late night lounge entertainer would be such a great writer. :)
"We are male and female. We are artists, athletes, students, and business owners. We have depression, DID, PTSD, eating disorders, borderline personalities, bipolar disorder, or maybe no formal diagnosis at all. Some of us were abused, some were not. We are straight, bi, and gay. We come from all walks of life and can be any age. We are every single race or religion that you can possibly think of. Our common link is this: We are in pain. We self-injure. And we are not freaks."
Can someone advise me how to apply my signature to my posts ? ..., as when I tried my pen scratched my PC screen.
I was so ugly that when I was born the midwife slapped our dad !
Reading Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy as I wanted to read it before watching the film. Recently finished Ubik by Philip K Dick
Is TTSS any good? Don't really want to commit to ordering it from the library if it's not worth it.
I've just finished reading The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighborhood. So, so, so much better than the HBO mini-series (and in my opinion HBO can do little wrong). A really gripping read, and quite moving. All the more so for knowing that it is real.
Othello by Shakespeare. It was hard work but I'm pleased I managed to persevere with it. And I can give my brain a rest and get back to normal fiction again now
