Crisis Text Line (UK)

Just saw this come up on Facebook. I haven't looked into it yet but from what I've seen, it looks really positive.

That is helpful, thank you! I don't have much mental health support where I live so this may come in handy X

You're very welcome :) if you decide to try it out, and feel like you would like to, please feel free to let us know how you got on. I will try and do the same if I decide to give it a go. x

I have seen this but haven't used it because I worry about them not letting me end the conversation or phoning the police or something.

I put it down on paper and then the ghost does not ache so much.

If you text back STOP it ends the conversation. I don't think they would phone the police, I don't think they even see your number.

I used to volunteer for the crisis text line, and in emergencies, they can call the police for your own safety, i.e if you're in immediate danger from yourself or someone else. As a volunteer I couldn't see people's number etc you will simply come up as 'anonymous 1' but the staff can if it's an emergency (i.e they can find out that information and pass it onto the police). It's not automatic and in my experience, it's isn't used very lightly. They are a great service and I wouldn't let that put you off but I do believe it should be more widely known that they do have the ability to do that because as far as I'm aware it's not really publicised.

Also, as tamo said texting 'stop' really does have to end the conversation, the text line cannot chase you up after that. It's policy.

Thank you both for clarifying that.
