Triggering (SI) - hair bands

i dont know if this is a type of SH but here goes
basicly i havent cut in just iver a month now so i heard that its good to use elastic bands to ping where you cut so ive been doing it with hair bands and basicly ive been doing it most of today and ive realised how instant a bruise will come up and how good it feels ive been replacing it with cutting and i dont know whether it is a form of self harm or not

Yeah I suppose it is. But its better than cutting so well done! I've tried elastic bands, i always thought oh god that wont work its just therapist's rubbishy advice blah blah but it actually hurts a lot so quite effective! although in a way you kind of feel oh im not getting anything out of it because there's no scarring.. that sounds terrible of me. Well done though its a positive step forward, maybe try elastic bands because they won't bruise. xxx

its better than cutting but if you're doing it to deliberately cause yourself pain then i think it would be classed as SI. *hugs*

Yeah I guess it is if you are doing it to deliberately hurt yourself but I must agree that it is better and safer than cutting but be careful you don't become too dependent on that and try othere distractions so you aren't just replacing one form of sh with another
take care

much love

You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.

Yes it is... and you are not alone I do it too.

See... this is why I think we need a OFOSH board... cuz this board says its specifically for the "the typical types of SH (cutting and burning)... well that's all well and good, but what about those of us who "snap" (BSH called it "ping"ing... it's the same thing)... or if someone has trichotillomania... or if someone bites themselves, or breaks their limbs on purpose or whatnot... some other less talked about forms of SH? We need a forum too!!!

ATTN: Admin - I am volunteering to mod an OFOSH board if ya'll will bring it back or create one. PLEEEASE???
I think some of us may really benefit from it.

We're all in the same game;
Just different levels.
Dealing with the same hell;
Just different demons.

Yes this is a form of self-harm because you are intentionally injuring yourself but like the others have said; you're not alone. Lots of people do this, personally I'll put a tight bobble on my arm near to my elbow until a dark circle around my arm appears and bruises. It's not exactly a constructive way of handling feelings but I guess in the long run it's not as destructive as cutting can be.
