Am I too old for Freshers at Uni?
I start uni in september, and I'll have just turned 26.
Will I be too old to go to any freshers events? I'm nervous if I don't go i might not make friends, but at the same time i don't want to be hanging out with fresh faced 18 year olds let loose for the first time in their lives.
So I don't know what to do?
Do I go or not? Or shall I look at making friends in other ways?

I don't think you're too old at all! I also appreciate your concerns about being "old" compared to fresh faced 18 year olds. Will you be living in halls? If so, it is for mature students or just anyone? I always found it easier to initially socialise with the people I lived this and then branch out later then lectures and other activities started.
When I was a mature student, I sought out their group (there will be one!) or a club and society where the general age was older and that really helped. I still attended all of the freshers and other stuff and while I felt a little old, it really wasn't a disaster.
Maybe have a look and see if there is a mature students Facebook group in advance so you've already touched base with a few people on-line?
Hope that helps. You will be fine!

the club i joined when i was at uni had a huge mix of ages, some old members of the club who joined when they were at uni but just stayed on even when they left. and then there will be the clubs with mature students at the uni. definitely not 'too old' :)

No, go. I've been to three unis. The first one, I was 18 and actually most people were 19+, many older. So many people take gap years and things that actually nobody notices about small age differences. Go, and enjoy it.

It doesn't matter where you come from; it matters where you go.
No-one gets remembered for the things they didn't do. We won't all be here this time next year,
so while you can take a picture of us. We're definitely going to hell,
but we'll have all the best stories to tell.

In my experience no.
I went to uni when I was 26 and I loved fresher week. There were a lot of older student on my course and other courses who I met in the first week and we had a great time

If your too old I am definitely too old. At the grand old age of 29.
Have you had a look at the events your uni is putting on? I have decided on three nights out (I don't tend to do clubbing/getting drunk) and then there is a quiz, bby and freshers fair. My uni has freshers forthright aswell.
I am also not keen on hanging out with 18 yr olds..not cause there 18 I do get on with younger ppl but more to the point of them having a free reign and getting smashed and loud all the time. But I reckon you will find some ppl to hang out with that aren't 18. Also I don't know if your uni does this but freshers are for everyone and not just for first yrs.
I was going to wait and meet ppl before buying tickets for events but by the sounds of it tickets run out. I don't know..but yeah, you aren't too old.

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.
I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.

At university no one really notices the difference in ages and to be honest you are in adult world, so why not go out and enjoy freshers?
|
Have you ever confused a dream with life? Or stolen something when you have the cash? Have you ever been blue? Or thought your train moving while sitting still? Maybe I was just crazy. Maybe it was the 60's. Or maybe I was just a girl... interrupted.
I know what it's like to want to die. How it hurts to smile. How you try to fit in but you can't. How you hurt yourself on the outside to try to kill the thing on the inside. I tried groups, didn't work out just made my depression a lot worse.

I didn't go to any of it.
I didn't manage to make any "friends" to go along with, especially as i'm not in halls. So I didn't go to anything, + my symptoms flared up ALL Over the place within 2 days of starting, so I decided to step down and rest and figure out how i'm going to manage.
Thank for the support though. I'm sure, had i met someone to go with, it would have been fine. I Just didn't meet anyone to go with. oh well.

I don't know anyone at uni and hence have no friends. I've been in uni for a few years. I ignore the other students as I don't do social.
So don't get upset with yourself.
