nah, dont find it offensive in the slightest. the avatars are personal to you, its not like you have a picture of a graphic wound with a tool next to it. its a cartoon. and surely on this site we should get that emo isnt a bad thing to be and i dont get how that would trigger anyone...but who knows......................i personally think that everyone should have sock monkey avatars so they can take over the world moo haha :P xx

I don't find it offensive but i can certainly understand how others would find it offensive.
I think you need to bare in mind that a lot of the stigma surrounding self harm is being called an "emo", and a lot of teenagers who are suffering with self harm who are at school are usually called "emo", and they want to get away from that by coming here, where they will be understood at how upsetting it is.
A lot of us regulars know the inside jokes surrounding the word emo, for instance the completely serious chat = "emo room of doom". It's all well and good having inside jokes but the new members seeing moderators with that sort of avatar can really put someone off posting or even continuing to be a member here because they may find it very offensive/upsetting.
I don't think it's acceptable for a moderator (or a member) to have an avatar like that because a lot of the newer members look upto the moderators when first joining here (i know i did), and to have an avatar like that would just be detrimental to the website on a whole. I just don't think it's necessary or funny to be honest.
People should be more offended by my rather insane looking avatar than the emo mod one, i do see how it can be seen as offensive to people but i think it's okay.
