I've been watching events in Rome on television when they showed the Sistine Ceiling. It was a bit odd because I was lucky enough to see it in person and can remember a lot just from the one hour I spent there. I also broke away from my art history group (I was on a university tour) and spent a day by myself wandering around Rome. Its one day I remember above most others. Everyone should try to go to Rome at least once imo.

Rome's a really lovely city. The Collesium (or however you spell it) is spectacular! The sites are really wonderful. The Sistine Chapel was a bit of a let down for me because there was so much noise and litter and you got random wardens yelling to 'keep it down' which ruined the spirituality of the place somewhat. The paintings were beautiful though.
No more than any other big European city. Will you be staying away from Berlin, London, Paris, Madrid etc?
I didn't think much of Paris, no. London can be worked around to avoid the most touristy of parts, but only because I'm more familiar with it, but I wouldn't particularly want to live there. As for Berlin, Madrid and others, not really feeling them either, tbh. Berlin would be a maybe, but I'd probably go in the winter when it was less touristy.

I was surprised by how small the Sistine Chapel was. Other than that it was pretty familiar to me from having studied is so much. I saw people with tears in their eyes and thought that was a little psychotic lol.
I got a kick out of the forum. There was one intersection I stood in where the forum was on one side. A baroque church was on another and a Renaissance church on the other. The last corner had a balcony where Mussolini gave a speech. There aren't too many places like Rome where you can experience that sort of concentrated historical layering.

I went to Rome in winter and agree that's a good time. I was in Florence and Venice too and would dread Venice in summer from what I've been told.
I do actually want to go to the vatican and visit all the church stuff, i love all the old painting and stuff
Well the Vatican museum is one of the best in the world. However you can get to see a lot of similar things in British Museum. I get to see similar things at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. The thing I liked about Rome is the architecture and the layout. Walking across Ponte Sant'Angelo and around Castel Sant'Angelo and then down the main street to St Peter's Square is pretty amazing. I have a weakness for monumental architecture - especially classical.
I spent half a day in rome and loved it i saw quite a lot but didnt get to the vatican

Yep, cruise stopped there once, we took ourselves around instead of paying extreme amounts for a guided tour. We liked it, was pretty busy though! Something happening with choir boys..
There will always be a happy ending. If its not happy then its not yet the end.
