Luckily my best friend and my brother have both done an Access Course so have warned me how intense they are but that they will both help me if I start struggling so that's helped reassure me.

I've also found looking on thestudentroom forum quite helpful as they have quite a lot of study resources that should come in handy!

Have you decided which universities you want to apply for?

Thats really good to have that support

Thanks, I'll check the site out.
I think I've been on it before for job interview advice!

I have a few unis I want to apply to.
But I'm only gonna be able to apply for ones that don't require GCSEs which a couple of them don't.
The college have organised a trip to a uni open day next week so I'll probably go to that.

I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!

Who else is fine?!?!?

The forum also has individual sub forums for specific universities and courses which is really useful.

Are you doing Maths & English GCSE's alongside your Access Course?
That's good that you still have a choice of where you can apply to though.

I also have a college trip to a local university. It's not an open day just an information day for mature students about the process of applying to uni/using UCAS and stuff about student finance. It sounds a bit boring but at least it means I get a day off actual college lessons!

I can't do the maths and english gcse course.
There is only one class and it ends at 8pm.
The last bus home goes at 7:30pm.
And maths and english are at the same day and time so you can only do one at a time.
Which is really bad planning but something to do with teacher availability.

We had a session on UCAS today and we will have more!
Theres soooo much to sort out!!

Day off college is good though! :p

I think there's a lot to be said for getting these things over with rather than dragging them on, if that's what you feel able to do. In your position I would thank the university for giving you the option and say that your preference would be to stick to the December plan and see how that goes.

Like Eska said I think it would be fine for you to say that you'd like to stick to your original deadline as you feel able to cope with the workload.

I had my first proper day at college today. I met my tutor group and there's about 16 of us now as we've all been spilt up. Luckily a few of the people who I got on well with last week are in my group which is good and we've already created a group chat so we can share work ideas/complain. I also got to come home early as one of my tutors had scheduled a meeting during one of our lessons.

You do what you feel is right catbug!
Is it an option to try to get it done this year but be able to change if it feels too much.

Im glad you're in a group with people you get on with lilo. It definitely helps!

I had a pretty good day.
I also found a group of people I get on with after some of them saw me sitting alone at lunch and invited me over and we got to know each other which was nice and a bit of a relief!

I didn't think I'd make any friends considering I have the social skills of a brick :p

My friend has made me a timetable for the week which is helpful!
Bonus of having a best friend who is an occupational therapist!

I don't have a printer but probably won't bother buying one as the college has kindly given us some free printing credits to use.

I was really worried about travel costs to college as the train was going to cost me £144 a month and then £44 a month even with my travel bursary which I really can't afford at the moment. Luckily one of the other students on my course told me about a student card we can get that will only cost me £15 a week for unlimited journeys between my home station and college which is a weight off my mind. Also means I'll have a bit of my travel bursary left over which I can use for uni open days but it'll probably be spent on coffee instead lol.

We have somewhere we can print stuff for free (one of the computer rooms, can't remember which one!)
But my printer is also a scanner which will come in handy.

Wow that's expensive!
Student card sounds like a lifesaver

Yeah the train prices are stupidly high considering the £144 a month would only cover 3 days of travel and includes 1/3rd off the original fare. Also the train journey is only 20 minutes each way. I can get a return ticket to London for the same price as a daily return ticket to college!

I had another short day at college today and finished at 11:15. I spent some time in the common room with a few people from my course which was nice. We've also created a course only group chat which should be helpful. I actually have 3 classes tomorrow so im hoping I won't be falling asleep by the last one.

That's insane!!!
My journey is only £6
And I can get a £450 payment for travel costs because I live more than 3 miles away from college.
My bus pass doesn't work before 9:30am

That sounds good!
How many days are you in college?
We were talking about making a group chat but didn't get round to it yesterday!

Luckily I should get a £100 a month towards the travel costs which is going to really help as it'll be once less thing to stress over. I also have a bus pass which doesn't work before 9:30am and it's so annoying! Especially as the bus tickets where I live are sometimes £4.50 for a single and then £5 for a return ticket which is stupid. Luckily I live in the centre of town now so just walk everywhere anyway.

Well I'm in college 3 days a week but for most of this term I'm only really in 2 mornings and then 1 full day due to some of my modules starting later in the year. It's nice to have some free time to acclimatise to the college though rather than be in 3 full days a week.

How many days are you in?

The 9:30am thing is really stupid.
Like we aren't disabled before 9:30!!!
Although the local bus passes do work.
I just have one from a different county.
But it does work in some other places in the county so it actually doesn't make any sense...

Ah ok.
Thats good you'll have some time to adjust.
Im in 3 days a week too.
9:15 to 3:00

Yeah I really think they shouldn't lump the disabled travel pass with the same rules as the OAP one as it's unfair. When I used to work full time having a free travel pass barely made a difference as I still had to pay £6 a day for a morning bus and train ticket. I'll stop ranting now!

I think I've got quite lucky with the timetable but when I start having 8 different lessons a week I'll probably start to stress out! I will also only have 15/45 minutes breaks between classes and lunch so if I want to study at college I'd have to do it after lessons. I do get a 4 day weekend though which is good!

That must be quite hard being in 9:15 until 3pm everyday.
Do you have any free periods between classes?
