Eat Some Humble Pie
Apparently there really is such a thing as Humble Pie.
I always thought it was just a saying "Eat some Humble Pie"
But apparently there really was such a thing as Humble Pie, which inspired the saying.
in Medieval England Humble (or 'Umble') Pie was made out of the offal; the lungs, liver, kidneys, of a deer.
'umbles' were considered inferior food and that in medieval times the pie was often served to lower-class people.
So to eat 'Humble' pie was to sympathise and experience the problems of the lower classes who didn't have the same privileges as the gentry.
