Do you know your grandparents' names?

I was shocked at my parents today as they were unable to tell me the first names of all their grandparents and was wondering how common this is! I know the names of all mine, including one who died before I was born, but I have her name as my middle name, so that's kind of cheating.

I know all my grandparents' first names, and a few of my great grandparents' first names.

I never thought it strange as a child, but my mum used to call her parents by their first names - aways. So weird now I think of it!

I do, but I have to think about it for a while. Because I call them 'granddad' and 'grandma' that's what I associate as their identities.

I like this. See on some levels I feel society has it wrong as your mum's parents' identity is not their relation to your mum, they still have names!

The options for this weren't good for me! :( I know three out of four of my grandparents names, but there wasn't an option for that so I've had to say no... AND THAT ISN'T ACCURATE! :(

It might be a generational thing, my mam called her grandparents 'nanny surname' etc.

I know them.
I was named after my mother's mum. And my middle name was named after my dad's mum.

Sorry! My polling skills are a bit rusty :P I think I meant the question to be "do you know all your grandparents' names", which would have worked better.

The results are interesting! Even though I was quite shocked by my parents, I didn't think it'd be that unusual. Upon further investigation, my mum thinks she may well have known their names in the past, but has just forgotten now.

I have to add, I'm sorry if I sounded rude or grumpy what I said, I didn't mean to. I was just sad as I didn't want to be classed as a no answer. :P

My mom is really good with information like this, I think she knows her grandparents names, and her great grandparents! Unless that's just a showing of the times sort of thing... I know people who don't know their grandparents names at all! :(

Oh no, don't worry I didn't think you sounded rude or grumpy. And it was a good point anyway :)

I know the names of all my grandparents. They were all alive when I was born too. Growing up though they would be called "granny" (mum's mum) and "granny [surname]" (dad's mum). Both my granddads were just called granddad!

I remember when I learnt their real names it felt strange!

I know mine but that's because they were called 'Nanny Agnes' 'Grandad Eric' and so on!

I never realized that not knowing grandparents' names could be a thing! Maybe I was just always extra unusually into family history as a little kid. I always loved asking about older family members' lives because I found the stories interesting.

I know their names. I've always been a historian at heart though and can understand some people not knowing names of dead grandparents. My paternal grandfather died when my father was 12. I never even saw a photo of him.

I thought I did. Then realised one has slipped my memory.

He wasn't important though. He left my dads fam when dad was a baby so I'm not too bothered. Know his replacement though so I guess that means yes.

But obviously then I saw the MOAR LESBIANS option and my vote was sealed.
