being on 2 anti psychotics/risks - update post 1
Im on aripiprizole and quietapine together.
Anyone been on this combo?
I've just been put on it.
According to my psych it's a common combo for psychosis and bipolar but I've never been on this combo before. Or known anyone on it. I have schizoaffextive disorder.
Any experiences?
UPDATE
I just wanted to modify this thread and ask if anyone has been on 2 anti psychotics at once?
How they found it?
What are the health risks ?
Any side effects to look out for?
Should I be asking for regular bloods or anything?
Thanks again.
Kate

I've been on quetiapine and olanzapine, and quetiapine and haloperidol. I didn't have many side effects other than sedation and, if I take a higher dose of haloperidol, akathesia. This is not common with atypical antipsychotics though.
Really your doctor should be on top of things like side effects and monitoring. Regular ECGs are important. I'm not sure about bloodwork. You could also ask your pharmacist.
Are there any things you're particularly concerned about?

I'm on 2 APs. It's hard. Both are meant to sedate me but they don't.
I get dry mouth and tremors. I also get restless legs.
If it works though it's worth it

thanks for the experiences.
sorry you find it hard Jodie.
I find that I am more sedated. not massively but its what I need to keep me calm.
I should be getting an increase in my quietapine soon and I im agine that will sedate me more as I fine Q quite sedating.

I'm on depixol (depot) and aripiprazole.
Although I have qualms about being injected, I feel the combination has saved my life. I'm finally stable. But I hope to have my depot switched to Quetiapine, as I can't deal with the injecting, I was also stable on the Q but had to come of it due to weight gain.
I've had ECGs done because of the combination.

Sorry I don't want to thread hijack but I was just wondering if you are ment to have regular ecgs with quetiapine?
I have been on both ariprizole and quetiapine but not together So can't advise but like others have said, your psych and Drs should be on it. Are you still in hospital?

I never had regular ecgs when I was on quetiapine. The only time I had them was when I was IP.

Regular ECGs are sometimes recommended in the literature but psychiatrists only tend to do them when the person has an underlying condition like a heart condition. This not a certainty though.
But on admission to hospital, yes an ECG would be done.
As for two antipsychotics. I'm on olanzapine and haloperidol (haloperidol was added not for mental health per se but for autistic meltdowns and often severe challenging behaviour), also been on olanzapine and aripiprazole and olanzapine and amisulpride. I had to change in the end on all of those due to increased side effects, but polypharmacy is more common in those that have been hospitalised.

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.
I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.
