Are the Potter films best viewed in order?

I only saw the first Potter film. However I posses all of them. I know a few of the older ones are considered inferior, and wondered if I should watch the best rated films first.

No. Watch them in order. Also, read the books. SO MUCH BETTER.

I personally think that the best HP movies were the first 2, the 3rd was ok, and then they started to go downhill.

My least favorite was the 5th one - Order of the Phoenix. Longest book was made into the shortest movie.

I absolutely loved the books though. All of them :)

Thanks. I didn't think I could get away with breaking order lol.

I don't really like reading fiction so I'll never get to reading the books. I have also thought Rowling was sort of imitating Dickens a bit and I should read his books before Rowling's.

You have to watch them in order as they wouldn't make sense otherwise!

Why would you not watch a series of films in order?

I'd say they're best watched Star Wars style - watch from Order of the Phoenix to Deathly Hallows Part 2, then go back to Philosopher's Stone.

Seriously though, to echo Enthused, why in god's name wouldn't you watch them in order? What makes you think they'd be better out of order?

I'm all for anyone who wants to anything to do with Harry Potter, even if it is either out of order or not all of it. *shrug* That's me.

Let us know what you decide, Jack. :)
I completely disagree. I thought the first few movies were MUCH better than the later ones.

But as already said, anything Harry Potter is good, so it's really whatever you decide.

The audiobooks are amazing. Just thought i'd mention that. I am literally currently listening to HP4 right at this very moment. Stephen Fry is the best person.

You could try that as Auror said.

If I begin to watch the film in order (and I already saw the first one) and then get one of the boring films early on I am probably likely to lose interest and then then not move on. As I recall it was one of the early films that fell a bit flat. I would rather skip that if possible and come back latter if I want. I've done that with PC games. I would rather begin Elder Scrolls with Oblivion than Morrowind - or Half Life series with HL3 or New Vegas than HL2.

I've tried audio books and I ended up either wandering or not liking the accents. Here in US a lot of books use a lot of posh speakers that all sound the same - monotonous lol. If I can spend 2 hours watching a movie vs 2 days or 2 weeks reading a book I am better off. I can read non-fiction ok but not fiction. It feels like having someone else's dream - which is ok but not at 20 hours worth of focus

Watching them in order would make sense but I get what you mean about losing interest. I think the first three and the last three are the better ones.

I listen to Stephen Fry audiobooks, not sure which other ones are available. It's alright I suppose.

Finally, a SPOILER....

Mike, wash your mouth out with soap! :P

Harry Potter is awesome. I throw the quotes (and other films) into conversations all the time. Until recently, one of my friends didn't realise I do this and just assumed I was really poetic. :P

Mike!! Take that back!

I don't think Rowling has done audiobooks (that would be epic) I've only listened to Stephen Fry who I think is the most famous person to do them. But i really enjoyed his voice and the different voices he put on.

Soph, I love when you bring HP quotes into replies!

Ah perhaps you've been "sailing on the bay" lol. I just listened to a Fry version on YouTube and could probably tolerate that. Its still many hours of listening though. I'm not so much a lazy reader as a fiction resistant one lol. Last fiction book I read was "Siddhartha" - back in 1998 lol. I'm thinking of trying "Catcher in the Rye" though

Definitely watch them in order, Jack! Must better in order. The first few films I find a bit dull now as I've seen them so much but the later ones are so much better in terms of acting. Also definitely at least attempt to read the books...Even if its just a chapter a day if you're not a fiction fan :)
