Poem for National Poetry Day
The Castle Of Borderline Land
One day we all gathered,
In the castle's yard for tea;
To discuss our woes and sorrows,
To feel as safe as we can be.
Others would hear stories;
They would chat restlessly
About our "weird" emotions,
About something they called BPD.
For, see, their feelings were controllable
Like lions in a cage, like a lamb on a field,
Whilst ours roamed freely,
And Zoomed and Banged and Roared and Barked;
And Danced and Laughed and Cried and Jumped.
So, the Others, when they met us,
They never understood,
Why we were different,
Why we couldn't act like they could.
At first, we were deeply hurt;
We closed the gate to the castle,
Never to let anyone in.
And there were clouds of anger,
And there was rain of grief,
And we were hit by a hurricane,
We thought we'd never feel relief.
But soon, the sun came out,
And butterflies flew all around -
They sang 'recovery' and helped us smile again;
For darkness is weak and doesn't last,
And slowly, but surely,
Together we can thrive.
We can bring the light back into our lives,
We can open the gate,
We won't have to tell lies.
The Truth will always prevail,
And the Others will learn,
That different is just fine,
For people aren't bricks,
To have to fit into a wall.
And so, we all went on adventures,
We left through the open gate.
We'd return regularly,
To have fun or commiserate.
*** Couldn't label it for some reason, I'm sorry; the only option was 'adult' and that doesn't fit at all. It's not a great poem, I just randomly wrote it, but my purpose was to make it sound hopeful. Do let me know if it is somehow triggering so it can be labelled accordingly.
