ok so i thought i might aswell post this, since i know we have firefox users here, plus its kind of fun!
What is Download Day?
Download Day is our attempt to set a world record for the most software downloads in 24 hours and will occur on Firefox 3 launch day.
so basicaly if you want to help set a new world record! download firefox 3 now!
its been happning since 6pm GMT and will last for 24 hours, so as of now 2 and a half hours in nearly 800,000 people have downloaded it
you can see the counter here and download the brand new firefox here
its faster than version 2 plus has css3 support, which is good for those that dont know =p
I just got it 15 minutes ago. It looks better and my plug-ins still work. Can't attest to the speed yet.
it's suppose to render html and javascript code twice as fast as version 2 but so does the new Opera browser in comparison to 9.2 and that has always been faster than firefox, i tried doing my own test, i loaded opera firefox and IE. then copied the link of a website i have never been to before (aresnal f.c) so it was not loading from cache. firefox and opera loading them in just under 4 secs where IE took over 10
The thing about internet explorer is, its just wrong lol. like if you go to a website that says this is best viewed in internet explorer. the reason for that is microsoft fail to comply with The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and their css standerds.
so what that means is instead of web developers coding a website and it will work cleanly for everyone. they have to code it twice once for IE and once for every other browser, but the reason you see it works best in IE is because web devlopers get lazy and just code for Internet Explorer, Microsoft.
now we have Opera, Firefox, Safari and KDE's browser which i cant spell (konquorer?) all with css3 support. but where is IE?
now i know IE7 has been a major improvement over IE6 which was appauling and IE8 is in the making as we speak, but i dont see that being released anytime soon. i also dont see it competing with the browsers mentioned in this post.
im gonna stop now cos i dont want to start ranting hardcore lol.
I go to sooo many news sites, emails, forums, banks, shopping etc that I have to use 3 or 4 browsers just to keep my bookmarks and cookies straight. Have you installed Silverlight on your IE? I have left it off so far - just because.

no there is no point really, its not really implmented and all it is, is Microsoft's version of Flash, and i dont see places like youtube using silverlight instead of the flash player. but then again you never know, but for now there is no need to download/install it

It looks a bit like a cross between IE and safari.
Sort of.
I like it though. Except the drop down menu in the URL bar, It's too big :/
But overall, lovely :)
My computer probably couldn't handle the update. It's an ancient brick that's still running windows 98 and on the verge of dying as it is. But my new laptop (which I'll be getting soon hopefully) will definately have firefox. *snuggles the fox*
My dad is a hardcore IE fan so his computer (and the one I'm currently on) is staying with IE. >.<
