Counselling advice

I am back in counselling. After a really traumatic time in October and me having a lot to deal with I am back seeing a lady every two weeks. I didn't make the last appointment as I didn't have the money to get there and I've been poorly. Anyways since I last saw her I've been struggling and feel myself slipping back.

Do I email her so she knows about how much I am struggling before I see her again on Friday or do I just hope I can face telling her on Friday and not email. It's been so long since I last had counselling that I don't know the guidelines and what to do.

Do you remember why she gave you her email address in the first place? When I have been allowed to email therapists they have usually said that it's ok to email and say how I'm getting on as long as I don't say I'm going to kill myself or whatever. Do you think it would be easier if she had some idea of what you've been going through before you go to your appointment?

UPDATE: I emailed her last night. Her email was on a workbook she emailed me over from the first session. I said to her that I am sorry if the email was not appropriate but that I wouldn't be able to tell her face to face and I needed to tell someone how I was feeling. And that I thought she should know so we have something to talk about and discuss on Friday's session. I hope she does not mind and I don't jepordise our future sessions together. We never actually discussed what happens outside of appointments regarding contact etc.

Well done, I hope it has been useful for you. Maybe you could ask her to clarify what the guidelines around contacting her are.

She was so lovely and concerned about me yesterday. She's told me to take some time out and to look after myself and she didn't say anything about me emailing her. She's sent me some stuff to do until I next see her and also a audio file to help me sleep. And she was emailing it over when I was with her and she called me "Rainbowgirl" which is the beginning of my email which I thought was sweet. Got two more sessions booked in with her.

She sounds very supportive, I'm glad you managed to send the email and that it helped. I hope you can look after yourself and make use of the next two sessions also.

How long ago were you discharged? How have you been getting on?

I got discharged on the 1/5/2019 and to be honest I cried when she ended the call. I myself don't feel I am ready to be discharged. I've felt crap pretty much since that day. But I don't know if that is because I am missing my therapist

It will be hard for a while, but it is possible to feel better and move on. Did she tell you her reasons for thinking it was time to end your therapy? Are there other people in your life there for you? You could maybe be re-referred for therapy in the future if it would be helpful.
