promethazine (phenargan) for anxiety?

Saw my psych today who's prescribed 25mg promethazine for anxiety, after talking to a pharmacist to find a suitable medication that comes in liquid (he wanted to prescribe buspirone or lyrica but couldnt as I cant swallow tablets).

It just seems a bit unorthodox, not heard of anyone taking promethazine for anxiety before.

Anyone else taken it for anxiety? Did it help?

I'm worried it's just going to send me to sleep.

I am currently:

I was on it for a while when i was an inpatient - from what i remeber it worked ok.
I was given that to help me relax before sleeping (was on medication for sleeping as well). I was on it as at night as i became so anxious that other medications such as zopiclone didnt work effectivley and i was already on high doses of other seditive drugs anyway.
Medication effects everyone differently, im sure your doctor must have perscribed it before (know it helps) to give it you.
Hope it works sweety

Hmmm, I've never taken it before. But if you worried about anything, please talk to your doctor. xo.

It has sedative properties so it should help you calm down and relax.

It isnt addictive like the benzo's and since people generally use it for hayfever the sedative effect shouldnt put you to sleep.

This isnt from personal experience tho, i was prescribed it once but it cost way to much! Just from what i have learnt at uni.

I have taken it before quite a few times. It doesn't do much me to be honest and i usually take 50mg. I was first prescribed it in 2012 for agitation so it has been in use for a while for anxiety and related feelings.

I hope you find it helpful. I know some people who I have been in hospital with swear by it.

I take it as a sleep aid and would say it doesn't do much. But then sedatives don't tend to work on me anyways. Try it and see how you get on
