I'll start with One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey, if we're talking fiction, then The Awakening by Kate Chopin. Jane Eyre would have to be in there. Girlfriend in a Coma and Microserfs by Douglas Coupland. Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Suzanna Clarke.
I think In Cold Blood and Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote are two of my favourite books too. In Cold Blood is amazingly compelling, great great book
Autumn: Purification by David Moddy; the Autumn series of books has the best zombie tale I've ever read, bit pretentious in places, but amazing
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath; thought it should be in my top 5 just cause I've read it so many times, don't think much of the first half of the book, but the 2nd half is brilliant
Faith of the Fallen by Terry Goodkind; The Richard Rahl series of books are great fantasy, this book has been the best in the series, such good ideas in it
Any Robert Rankin book; He is the most funniest writer, every single book is ridiculously funny : )
Battle Royale by Koushun Takami; A brilliant film, and the book is equally amazing, and quite different in places
Heaven Eyes - David Almond Written for kids but I think adults should read it too. The characters are both very real and fantastical at the same time. In all his books he bases the story around a kid who for whatever reason is margiinalised by society and sees the world very differently. He is an amazing writer! Read also Skellig and Kit's Wilderness.
Billy Liar - Keith Waterhouse Billy is my favourite literary character of all time, he is charming, funny but he also carries an air of tragedy as he is unable to leave his mundane reality behind. It is set in the past, but I think the story is relevant to many people today. The film is even better than the book!
Like Water for Chocolate - Laura Esquivel Magical Realism, romance, amazing characters, twists in the plot, sensuality, food and pure emotion. This book will swallow you.
Beowulf - Seamus Heaney Amazing hardcore poetry.
The House of Spirits -Isabel Allende More magical realism, beautifully written.

I don't really have specific favourite books. Instead, I love the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett, the Dr Kay Scarpetta novels by Patricia Cornwell, and I'll try anything by Jane Green :D
I love this book because it's about a teenage girl going through a normal teenage girls life even though she's becoming more famous as days pass her by. Just goes to show no matter who you are your still like everyone else.
Once in a house on fire - Andrea Ashworth; It's about the author's abusive childhood. The book starts from when she was very young, and ends when she's in university. Her mother meets up with many men, most of them abusive and horrible, and eventually she becomes an alcoholic, or something. Andrea Ashworth writes about her 'fathers', and how she copes. She talks about her first day at school and how she felt pressured. It's a really touching book and it's written in a fictional way - although abviously it's not.
i've had this book for over a year now.
i bought it for no reason at all for like 50p at a charity shop.
i need to read it.
Five books that I love and could read again and again -
The Lord of the Rings - JR Tolkien - although I love the films the book is so much better
His Dark Materials Trilogy - Philip Pullman - can't wait to see this when it comes out as a film!
My Sisters Keeper - Jodie Picoult - I love her books but this one is my favourite
Angelas Ashes - Frank McCourt - made me cry so much the first time I read it
Black Beauty - Anna Sewell - My childhood favourite
The one book I could read over and over (I once read it three times in one week) is Anne McCaffreys' The Dolphins of Pern

P.S I Love You
Cecilia Ahern
Girly love story.
" Cecelia Ahern's debut novel, PS, I Love You, follows the engaging, witty and occasionally sappy reawakening of Holly, a young Irish widow who must put her life back together after she loses her husband Gerry to a brain tumour." Very funny, very sad,but very good.
I love Cecelia Ahern's books. They're so well written and easy to get lost in when you need to just take your mind off things.
I also love 'The Time Traveller's Wife' by Audrey Niffenegger [sp?]
It's an amazingly original story and is extremely well written. I can't explain it. You just have to read it. Trust me.
