Didn't ECT help before though? I hope it's useful for you this time around.

You were going through similar things the last time you had ECT though. Even if you think it won't help it's probably worth a try since the doctors believe it might be useful.

I just don't want it
It should be my choice
Forcing something like ECT is completely unethical

Unfortunately because you are held under a section 3 which is a treatment section they can do whatever is reasonable.

If you're worried about the ect then once you are out of hospital then you can do an advance directive with the specific mention of ect. It might not stop them over riding it but it will make it harder for them. Unfortunately you cannot do an advance directive when you are IP as you are judged not to have enough mental capacity.

Alternatively if you really don't want ect then perhaps now is the time to start eating and drinking at regular times.

From what I've read online ECT should only be used for seriously unwell people and for people with depression or schizophrenia. I have neither.

I will do an advance directive when I eventually get out of here

I can't eat or drink right now

What's your opinion of when you've been through this before, and when you were trying not to become unwell and get caught up in thoughts of contamination?

What do you mean by it must be some sort of trick? I know it's hard when you're stuck inside a belief and I don't think anyone expects you to all of a sudden change your mind. I hope you do get back to a more settled place soon though.

I think you mentioned before that ECT might be worth a try again. What's changed? Did you regret the ECT before?

Also, to be perfectly frank with you - you're not eating or drinking because of beliefs of contamination, subsequently your sugars are constantly low (a state that, as a diabetic, I spend every moment of every day fighting to avoid because of how dangerous it is, btw!), you've been collapsing and have spent a few days on another hospital ward on multiple drips. That sounds like someone who is seriously unwell to me.

I second all of this Beckie. I’m really worried about you.

I really do appreciate your support

I don't regret the ECT from last time
I just don't think it will help this time

Maybe the ECT is still worth a try though? Better to try something than just prolonging your time in hospital by doing nothing.

They're worried for you, as are we all.

Well, I'm going to have it whether I like it or not anyway

That makes sense. I think you're right. If ECT doesn't change anything they will be more likely to believe you.

But also I guess given you were in medical hospital, wouldn't they have noticed the contamination if it was real? They did a lot of tests and things, and that means they would have found and treated the contamination. Did you ask them about it?

You can't always keep it separate.

Blood tests can't pick up everything
I did ask them about it but they just said it wasn't real

Why wouldn't a blood test pick it up?

I don't know but blood tests can't possibly pick up every single thing
And pretty sure what I have isn't very common
