im using tommee tippee ones and mothercare ones - but the mothercare ones are crap, they were the ones i was wearing when i leaked. i have ordered some lily padz, they are meant to be brilliant, i have heard nothing but good things about them. they are designed stop you leaking or reduce it instead of soaking it up, and are meant to be invisible under clothes. i will let you know how they go when they arrive.

the lanisoh ones were fabulous. when i didnt wear them i leaked like a fountain. However with the pads, i never noticed them being wet - even when i went out for the day and was gone all day - forgot to take a spare set, they were still completley dry and they are really thin, no smell either (some of them smell plasticy). mand x

I've had really bad heartburn too esp at night, it's because I work late shifts and get really hungry at work and can't resist eating too much, so bring it on myself to an extent. But I'm lucky, not being too bothered by any symptoms!

Haha at heartburn - I have to take the blame for mine, all that info I read about not eating spicy food, but I couldn't resist a chinese the other night. It was really nice, but oh boy did I suffer for it afterwards!!

*hugs* Def try and get some rennie/gaviscon when your money comes in, to help settle your stomach a bit. I took gaviscon the other night after the chinese and it works almost straight away, it's magic lol.

lol afraid its all part and parcel of being pregnant hunnies! if heartburn is all you have had to contend with so far bern then you are one lucky lady! sometimes gaviscon and rennies dont help, i drank a lot of peppermint tea to help with mine, but that didnt always work either.

STICKIE! STICKIE STICKIE STICKIE!!!!!!! *grumbles*

Guys, I have a friend who is stressing cause she's switching to formula as her bub is feeding a zillion times a day and she's not getting any sleep and she's dropping weight dramatically and is just generally unwell. Do you lots have any advice? I actually know more people who are bottle feeding then breastfeeding at the moment and I know quite a few who do both. Advice for her???

for heartburn, sleep more propped up. drink slowly a pint of cold squash (soothes and dilutes the stomach acid, so any further reflux doesn't irritate so much), take cheap (ownbrand) indigestion liquid...and lots of it!
you can get heartburn from the hormones in pregnancy, it relaxes the sphincter muscles (diaphragm) at the top of your stomach. Also baby's weight doesn't help, try sleeping more on your side as your stomach isn't as crushed that way. mand x

alive, has her baby always fed that way or is it just recently? when babies have a growth spurt, which happens a lot in the beginning, they will cluster feed, particularly at night. is her baby falling asleep soon into a feed? if so then they wont be getting as much as they would get in a full feed, so will go back to the breast more often. she would need to try to keep her baby awake, trying things like blowing gently on babs face when theyr beginning to drop off, tickling round the jawline, winding, even changing nappy. plus if they are falling asleep soon into a feed they will mostly be getting the foremilk, which is quite watery and isnt as rich in fat and nutrients. my advice in that situation would also be that if her baby falls asleep at the breast before 10 mins is up and wakes up half an hour later wanting more, put babs back to the same breast. then they will get the hind milk too.

the other option is to combine feed. some people find this works for topping their babies up.

but she should speak to her health visitor, they will be able to direct her and help her get over the guilt. no one should feel guilty for giving up breastfeeding, but its very difficult not to. its just that we have so much pressure to give our babies the best start and sometimes it doesnt work out that way. try to reassure her no one judges her for her decision, she is doing what she feels is best, and she is the mummy aftr all.
i have sometimes questioned if i should give up breastfeeding, but for me i have gotten past the worst part. sometimes she still cluster feeds and its a nightmare, but in reality we both enjoy the bond of it and i will be sad when i have to give it up. however, we all do give up at some point, it happens to us all, just some do it sooner than others.

it has to be majorly weak squash or it is actually more acidic. try milk but in smaller quantities as the fat content can make things worse. makesure whatever it is, it is really cold. I used morrisons own cheap liquid and drank it out of the bottle! Make sure you are well propped up, even try bricks under the head-end of the bed. try not to eat anything for a few hours before bed and tell bubs you will poke them if they keep giving you heartburn!

Cold peppermint tea helps my heartburn and yeah the big thing is not to eat too soon before bed but working the hours I do it's hard not too. Also if I don't eat enough in the evening my heartburn in the morning is so bad it makes me sick.

keep some 'morning coffee' biscuits by the bed, with a glass of water. 2 biscuits before oyu get out of bed or when you have heartbrun. theyre very plain and help soak up some of the acid. make your mouth dry tho. mand x

nothing to worry bout
the baby is getting bigger so the contractions have something to push against now. also they are massaging your baby's skin and get the blood flowing and that's good for both your's and baby's circulation.

also the aches could be muscley pains ontop of braxton hicks.

don't worry unless they start coming very regularly, lasting for 60 seconds each and doing that for at least 30mins. Also they will be the sort of pain to stop you mid sentance, to make you go ooooooh ow, and want to curl up coz it hurts. Then get to gas and air as fast as you can, its great stuff, i only had gas and air for the labour, the epidural wasn't effective until i actually gave birth (the last stage).

I hated the gas and air - it did take my mind off the pain a little bit by making me focus on breathing, but it made me so sleepy I was struggling to keep my head above the water!

i think they had the mix wrong in my gas and air... i was laughing like a loon. i kept saying stupid stuff like 'my teeth are furry' and 'i feel like i had botox'... the only time the gas and air wasnt good for me wqas the 10min contraction, was impossible to keep breathing the gas and air, i would have fainted. I had to stop the G/A to get some more oxygen, that's what made me sick, not enough oxygen.
I was gutted after I had the epi, to know I was so close to the end and no-one thought to check. The baby could have been born 15mins later if they'd checked before I had the epi, as it was it took 60mins for the ocntractions to pick back up and then 15mins for the birth.
