I personally think that often therapy/counselling is more effective when you’re not
in a crisis or period of high stress. When you’re in a crisis, whatever form that might take, the focus ends up being on the symptoms of the crisis and trying to deal with that, rather than having the time and space to focus on the actual issues at the core of it.
