Periods

Hey, just a little worried, I havn't had a period in ages. I mean 3-4 months or something around that. I know it can take a couple of years after your first start for them to become regular but then that means they should be by now, and most of the time they were regular-ish.

I'm not underweight and there's no chance I could be pregnant. The only thing I can think of is when I OD a while ago, I don't think I've had a period since then, but I didn't think ODs could affect stuff like that?

I'm not exactly complaining, just unsure why.

Thanks.
xx

have you changed your diet? you dont need to be underweight to lose your periods.

are you stressed?

Not quite sure why you're asking a forum this when you should be down at the Doctors.

Not quite sure why you'd question someone posting, asking for adivce in the "General support and Advice" section...

To the original poster, i'm not sure, maybe a trip to the GP may be in order, as you can tell by my name, i'm not THAT used to periods :whistling:

while i'm obviously no expert, the OD you mentioned could have somehow affected your hormones... You have already dismissed the obvious answer (pregnancy) and since I have no experience myself, i;d reccomend you pay a visit to your doctor/gp, just to be sure.

You mentioned that it can take a couple of years for a period to become a regular occurance, but can you remember around when you started your first period (If you don't mind me asking)?

It really could be any number of things, especially when you're young your menstrual cycle can fluctuate for any number of reasons. As people have said, if it's worrying to you then it's prob best to go for blood tests to check your hormones and so on.

Like everyone's pretty much said your periods can be affected by a number of things including not necessarily if you're just underweight, but if you've changed your diet recently, or started eating more/less. Also if you're stressed and such like there can be various different reasons. You are still young and periods can continue to fluctuate for a long time after you've started [I still skip a couple of months occasionally], however a trip to your GP would be pretty simple just to check that everything is okay x

Erm, bit rude?

Periods can stop for any number of reasons, if there's no chance you could be pregnant then perhaps take a trip to your GP or local family planning or brook centre, they'll be able to help you out. Good luck!

Hmm... all I can suggest is a trip to the doctors.

I've changed my diet a lot recently, my binging and purging got worse for a while, now I'm trying to recover so eat only healthy stuff now whereas I used to eat junk food quite a lot, and I don't eat a lot of food either. I also excercise and I never used to.
I'm really stressed at the moment, I'm not allowed out the house, my parents make it obvious they hate me, I think I'll shut up before I ramble. But basically, I'm so stressed I'm gonig to explode one day.

About 2 years ago, so it should be ok by now I think, even though I do realise that there have to be numbers both above and below average, I'm still a bit worried about the length of time though.

Also, I've had a hormone test to check there wasn't a reason for depression and it came back saying all hormone levels were fine.
I've thought about going to the doctor, but I find it awkward asking my parents. I was speaking to somebody by PM who suggested just saying to my dad it was girly stuff kind of thing (my mother hates me, she'd prboably hope it was serious and not take me) but they'd either accuse me of lying, saying that I was going the doctors for some obscure reason, or accuse me of being pregnant...

i think stress and the purging has effected your periods. When i was purging my periods went all over the place so i went on the pill so regualte them again.

i think it would be a good idea to speak to your doctor about it.also try not to purge anymore because it is very dangerous.

There are some things that people shouldn't even bother asking a bunch of people on forums when they should be seeing a professional INSTEAD.
I mean sure she could get "reasons" as to why it's happening, but it's hardly going to have any effect on her body.

And LOL @ princesskaytie-leigh, we're not all saints.

sometimes periods can just be funny for no reason, but if its been for a few months it could be something you need to go to your gp over - but sometimes people just arent regular - ever. (just dont go worrying yourself too much over it) it could be ed related tho, so just to be safe, and rest your mind, id go to the doctor - or try nhs direct if going to the doctors is out of the question - but if it keeps up much longer, get it checked out!

I'm not even sure my parents would take me to the doctors if I asked, they'd probably just laugh in my face, and I'm not allowed out by myself.

Thanks for the advice everyone else, I'm recovering from my ED now so I'll see if things get better.

Sofie 20-07-2007 07:03 PM

It might be something to do with your ED. I think (someone please correct me if I'm wrong here) that you need to be at least 7.5 stone else you won't have a period.

.ghost. 21-07-2007 07:59 AM

I way over 7 and a half stone =[

*Sarah* 21-07-2007 09:53 AM

My periods have been irregular lately too, it's anything from stress to your diet... I would go to the doctors.

So you haven't had a period for 4 months and they'd laugh at you for being worried about that??
