Giving Blood
I gave blood today, it was awsome! I went in on my own and was Sh**ing myself, but it was all good, and I got cookies and tea, and sausage rolls.
I am absolutly going back every 12 weeks, it feels so good to give blood, and not just because i'm going to be a cheap drunk tonight :whistling: Anyone else give or have given blood? Emma! |
hey! Yeah I did for the first time about a month ago and it made me feel great too, It's really rewarding! I am going to go have it done again too, and also considering signing up to the bone marrow donor list.

I'm not allowed to give blood, because I'm anaemic and have had piercings within 6 months.
If and when I can, I will. :) |
I always wanted to give blood!!!
Im not allowed though as i have had transfussions. but well done you for going!!! |
I would like to give blood but I can't due to my gentic condition. It's good that you are.

I dont normally post in here, but whatever!
Thats great, im glad you feel good about it! Whats the age restrictions? As i would like to give blood but I am only 16. Also, whats the whole procedure... what happens and do they check your blood and that? xxxx |
You normally have to be 17. You go in and they ask you to fill out a medical questionnaire (nothing about SI mentioned on it though) and then you go over your answers with a Nurse. Then they prick your finger and do an anaemia test on your blood (very quick). Then you have your blood taken whilst lying on a stretcher thing (about 470ml I think) and then they give you sugary drinks and you have to stay for about 10 mins so they can make sure you arent going to faint or anything. Then there is free food if you want it.
|
Oh right, thankyou. Free food haha!
Im 17 in 3 month, and then i wont get any piercings/tats for a while. Thankyou that was very helpful. :) |
I tried to give blood before.
They pricked by finger to test for iron and I didn't bleed enough. Then they kept squeezing my finger to get enough blood out, which really hurt, and I started to get light headed and stuff like I was going to go into shock or something from just a finger prick, which is kind of funny considering what I do to myself. They gave me a sticker that said "Be nice to me, I tried to give blood today," instead of the ones that say "Be nice to me, I gave blood today" that they give to people who actually give blood. The second time I tried to give blood, they went to prick my finger and I got scared because it was so bad the last time, and wouldn't let them do it. They let me have a bracelet anyway, even though I didn't actually give blood. Now I can't give blood because I don't weigh enough anymore. |

I would love to give blood but id just faint all the way thru! Pengies and blood just dont get along! WELL DONE YOU! |
i really want to give blood, but they told me i wasnt allowed, until i hadnt SIed for 12 months, but i guess if they didnt know when i went in....
|
also how long do you have to wait from getting a tattoo to give blood?
|
^^^
300 YEARS! |
good on you =]
i can't actually give blood for like a year |
I've never given blood, although I've have a lot of blood taken. I use to have to get blood tests all the time for medicine levels, and when I was in the hospital they did it like 2 time a gay. I like when they first put it in and it shoots to the end of the tube. - sorry if that was triggering.
|
I used to do it every 12 wks, but I'm not allowed anymore after receiving a transfusion for gastric bleeding, since anyone who's received one after 1980 is banned from donating. Meh.
|
I dont think i could stand a needle in me for that amount of time, having a blood test is bad enough. But well done.
