Same-sex marriage approved in Wales and England!

I hope it's OK to post in here. :)

Seems like Queen Elizabeth II had given her stamp of approval on same-sex marriage.

It is fantastic news :-)

Must be a thoroughly bizarre situation for the Queen on the one hand she is the supreme governor of the Church of England which has opposed gay marriage but on the other hand she's required to give royal assent to the new law allowing for gay marriage :tongue2:

This might be a stupid question, but why is it illegal for same sex marriages to take place in a Church of England/Wales church? I don't get the reasoning.

I believe it is to stop the churches from being sued for discrimination, as they were heavily opposed, and I think they are bound to marry anyone who requests it. It may also have something to do with the church's doctrines officially being part of the law (as the CoE, and so this might form some sort of exclusion.

Thank you. I'm a Christian myself, but attend a Quaker meeting house, so have quite contrasting views to some other Christians. It's a tricky one for certain types of church, it seems.
