Tattoos - does anyone have any?

Hi everyone, I have a few tattoos and was wondering who else has any and if so wat of ;-) I only get them done if they mean something to me.
The first one I got done with my hubby wen I was 18, he almost fainted getting his done lol! This one is in my arm of a rose, thru a heart, supposed to symbolise my commitment to him then I got his name, my sons name and my name in Chinese symbols in my back ( still to ads my daughters name) and my last one is in my side and I had this one done for my Mum who passed away in 2010 and it is Mizpah in Hebrew writing.

I plan to get tattoos when I'm 18. Meaningful ones of course. I forget some, but I believe I made a list somewhere... I dunno, but I'm gonna remake my list anyway. :3

I have a few tattoos. A neutral coloured cameo on my left wrist, I have a symmetrical pattern behind my right ear, and a quote from my favourite novel around my hip.

Getting my first tattoo later this year, it is a quote that I have wanted for years!

Pi.R^2 05-02-2013 09:53 PM

^ooh, what is it?

I have a QK on my wrist and "Feast on your life" on my stomach.

The only tattoo ideas I have now are trollish ones, so I'm resisting the temptation :p

It's probably easier to ask who on here doesn't have tattoos as I think most do!

I have 2. A fairy on my back and a one on my foot saying all you need is love.

I want lots more.

makedamnsure 05-02-2013 11:23 PM

I have a heart on my back ("tramp stamp!" Lol) but I desperately want a quote or even just a word above or below it. I'm just not 100% certain what yet, something along the lines of "walk on", "memento mori", "so it goes" or similar.

I also want a paw print, but not sure where!

And a tree on my ankle.

I'm considering getting "the mountains are calling, and I must go..." To remember my kili trip and remind me to get out into the mountains now and again. But it's quite a long quote so I duno.

My god I want a lot of tattoos lol time to get saving!

I have five tattoos and I plan on getting more.

an ankh on my right wrist, a ying-yang on the back of my let hand, a tribal symbol on my left forearm, a celtic knot on my left upper arm and a tribal pokemon design on my right upper arm.

I only ever intended on getting one, but the are addictive.

I'm no doubt as square as hell, but why do people want to disfigure the body that God gave them? I find them totally inappropriate and usually a bit hideous.

Not long ago I asked a farmer friend what was the meaning of the small tattoos that so many young women sport above their backsides. His reply was instant - second hole down! I was gobsmacked ...

Tony.

My first tattoo was a bird flying free from a cage. My second was a bird in flight on my wrist. And my third was a swallow holding a four leaf clover in its beak on my left arm. I guess it's sort of charting my progress to freedom... from negativity, really. Freedom to be myself. That's kind of how I see it/what it means.

I've got a few tattoos lined up in my mind... I'd like a celtic symbol on the back of my neck (I've always been really fascinated by Celtic history/mythology), two magpies on my feet (two for joy, further representing flying to happiness and away from negativity) and somewhere I'll get a very small Mario mushroom to remember my childhood. Oh, and I definitely want a Tolkien quote.

OK, Carpe Diem, point entirely taken. But why disfigure yourself further? Most human beings go through phases of self-hatred/disgust or whatever - not just SH-ers. But while I can just about understand the need to *pretty* yourself up, tattoos are permanent. How do you change your mind? Expensively.

Tony - not trying to knock those who tattoo but just trying to understand ...

Tattoos and body modification have been around for thousands of years. Look at the Picts and their blue woad. Tattooing has a beautiful, vast and interesting history and I personally find it empowering, valuable and enjoyable to mark chapters of my life and things that mean a lot to me, on my skin. It's nothing about 'prettying' myself up at all. Tattoos are beautiful, in the same way that artwork is. To me, anyway.

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of silly and probably somewhat trite tattoos out there, but that's up to the people who get them.
