I miss my scars?

For a month now I have been free of self harm..I've overcome the urges and everything, but this might sound utterly crazy, I don't know, but in a way I miss not having the scars and marks on my arm...Is that crazy? :ermm: Does anyone else feel like this? Is it normal?
I don't know if I was ready to stop... It feels like I don't know who I am now. At least when I was doing it I knew who I was. I knew exactly how I felt! But now I don't and it's really confusing! :crying:
Is this normal for people to feel like?

Well, Honey, I wouldn't say it's 'normal' but I certainly know how you feel. Congrats on being free for a month - that's brilliant news.

Have you tried good old red sharpie pen? Or perhaps just tracing lines with something that leaves no trace? Moving a spoon over your skin or something like that so you feel the pressure but with no marks and no wounds.

When I missed my scars first I got tattoos. I know that's a little extreme and unorthodox but they really helped.

first off, great job on the month *high fives*

it isn't unusual to miss scars. like you said, they have sort of defined you for a long time, and it is uncomfortable for anyone to have to redefine themselves.

but you have the opportunity right now to find other things to show who you are and to provide your sense of self. and if you can do that, it will make continuing to resist the urges much easier, because giving in won't seem as much like something that you usually do.

how would you like to see yourself? how would you like others to see you?

what are your positive qualities? (and i know there are many!) what are your skills?

I suppose it's just getting used to them not being there..I know it's a good thing they're not there, but I kinda wish they were! I'm not old enough to get tattoos just yet unfortunately! I guess it's just a matter of fighting the urges and staying strong, and I'll start to get to know the new me...thanks guys xx

You'll get used to it, but in the meantime, think about all the great reasons for them being gone; short sleeves, tanning. Maybe write out the list, and put it up on your wall to remind yourself.
