Microdermal infected?

Hey everyone,

I'm hoping somebody here will have more experience with micros than me. I have two microdermals on my nape. Was done in october, no problems healed perfect. Today I noticed one of them is swollen and not to be gross but I was pulling chunks of dried puss out from
Under the head of the piercing. I have no idea why it's mad at me but it is. I'm far from home till December. I'm not sure if I can get antibiotics from the pharmacy. Other than salt water rinses, what can I do? And at what point should I worry about getting it removed if necessary? Thanks in advance!

are u sure it was pus? could be dried skin/skin cells. how long do they take to heal? i know most 'normal' piercings dont usually get infected once they've healed.

Microdermals are under the first layer of skin.

Could still be dead skin that has built up under the head. I would unscrew the head and make sure that it's all clean under there. Then carry on with the hot salt water soaks. If it was only done in october it may not be fully healed yet so don't treat it as it is until you are sure. Surface piercings can take an age to heal and microdermals moreso. Treat it like a new piercing and it should be fine. But yeah, the head bit un-screws so check under there first, but be careful as it can be hard to screw back on! I have to use blu-tack to screw mine back on!

I think doing warm sea salt, or rock salt soaks can be beneficial. I like to use boiled water from the kettle and use it while it's still quite warm but doesn't burn. I've had mine for about five years, I still try to be mindful of it, rinse it thoroughly when I wash and try to not knock it etc.
