St Johns Ambulance

Does anyone actually do this?

or infact has anyone been helped by them?

I'm doing my 3rd year and love it.

On duty again today and tomorow one 12-5 ish and another 10-2

Gets me out of the house and we do fun things aswell as first aid. :)

i did it for the first 3 years i was at uni, had to give it up in my last year though cos everything got a bit much with dissertation, essays, placements etc.

i miss it though, used to love going on duties!

I'm a lifeguard, thought about doing St John's but honestly it would be a first aid overkill! I work with one girl who does it and she absolutely loves it. The uniform has always turned me off a bit :p

St John Ambulance. ;)

I was a cadet for a few years then left. Dad and brother quite heavily involved. I help with training courses and camps (catering) but not a member. Not sure about joining adults and can't join adult division where I was a cadet. And I hear enough about the politics that go on to put me off!

Ironyyy, I just got an email from them about a meeting on Wednesday (I emailed them to join volunteering), but I don't really know what to expect. If anyone could tell me what to expect, that'd be great :)

You just made my Day..!
I was just about to correct that. =]

I'm with The St John Youth Programme in Kiwi-a-go-go-land AKA New Zealand and I wouldn't leave for anything. I was a cadet from ten, now i'm 19 and I'm a youth leader. I was thinking about joing adults but there are far too many politics involved. I just ignore them in youth, but we have a sexy uniform over here.... not. What the uiform like over there..?

Much love, Bee.

ASkatersDream... 23-05-2011 01:31 AM

its changing but at the moment the uniform is

White shirt
Black fleece
Black Trousers
Black socks
black shoes
High vis.

Changing to something like

Black polo shirt
Black combats
green coat?
Black socks
Black shoes

Ambulance people

Different by county but ours is

All blacks or All Greens

I am not a part of the St John organisation but have recieved well-delivered training courses from them, most recently as part of my guide leader training. It's actually been really useful despite having never used it in guiding.

I have also had numerous interactions with St John ambulance. Round where I am they cover a lot of big events, and have looked after me when I passed out from a severe panic attack, and also during gigs. I still remember them kindly redressing my arm once, after I had been carried to first aid at a gig having passed out, with the bandage rucked around my hand. It's a great organisation.
