Aspergers? Autism? help?
Not really sure where to post this, so if it's the wrong forum please feel free to move it.
I'm writing a feature film (for my feature film writing class) and I'm trying to do some research for it. I was wondering if there is anyone here who knows anyone with or who has Asperger's. The daughter of the main character in my script has Apergers and I was wondering what anyone could tell me about it from personal experience. What its like on a daily basis living with it, what makes the symptoms worse (if anything), what helps, coping skills, school life (especially for a child [8]), what is the hardest thing about it. whats the best thing about it. basically any information anyone has or is willing to share. im just trying to gather info on a more personal level instead of the clinical stuff ive read thus far. thanks in advance! |
check out the film "adam", the main character has aspergers, very good film.
One of my customers has aspergers, functioning but very reliant on her parents. Shes the most amazing artist I have met. Shes been in the local paper, and her work....you couldn't separate it from any of the masters really. |
Perhaps google it & research the characteristics in young children who have Autism / Aspergers?
They may have some personal stories on it, or films on young children with it. |
try going to the forum www.aspiesforfreedom.com :) theyre a nice bunch, may be able to help

I have been diagnosed with Aspergers. The best way I can describe living with it, is that you’re reading the same book as everyone else—you’re just on a different page. You can have friends and seem pretty normal (maybe a little geeky to everyone else), but at the same time you are cut off from everyone and it’s not something you know you can break down. People will talk to you, but there’s always something that never fits totally in place. Being eight you just start to realize the things that are different. I had a LOT of trouble with school and other kids there, and ended up being pulled out and being home schooled. Things that make it worse are social situations with lots of people and distractions. It probably showed in me as annoyances, and stress. I also like to know where I'm going. It's better if I've been their before - but the main thing is that I know days or weeks before what my plans are. If something gets changed last-minute it can be pretty stressful. I’d be very tired when I got home, even if it seemed like something small to someone else—because having that much anxiety is a very tiring thing.
Feel free to message me if you want to know anything else. Best of luck working on your film! :) Cassie x |
My partner's got aspergers so I can only give advice from an outsiders point of view but I'll do y best.
Through school he was seen as an outsider, got frustrated and lashed out when he couldnt understand that there was social bounderies he had to follow. When he started getting bullied it got on top of him and ended up beating a few of the guys quite severly. He is also extremly smart, almost too smart for his own good. He has so much brain power but because he cant focus on the one thing at a time he loses concentration but he is probably the smartest person Ive ever met! He moved from school to school over small things as it would seem to us like not being put on the right rugby team or something. Now as I'm in hospital he finds it hard having to stick by social bounderies again. I'm on bedrest 24/7 and when he comes in and realise he cant follow our normal rountine such as cuddling up together he gets frustrated, frustrated at me because I'm not giving him enough affection then at himself because he cant progress through his head why things have to be cooled down. It has played a majour part in our relationship especially at the beginning when he didnt realise that flirting and sendng sexual messges was a form of cheating and he continued to beat himself up because he was so frustrated he didnt know right from wrong. He also has his own wee fixations that keep him happy but only for a short period of time before he gets bored of them such as guitar, kartate, painting wee figures, motorbikes but as he has ADHD he gets bored easily. Despite all this I love him so much and Ive grew to understand more about his illness as he has with me. Also with aspergers there is no medication or specific type of therepy to help so its just about other people supporting him and keeping him in check as horrible as it sounds he could say something rude & i'm the only person who actually has the guts to tell him he's in the wrong. Ive had people tell me how rude hes been and when I explain they dont even understand bu i guess thats just ignorane. I love him despite his faults as he does me. Hes been threw out of his home and numberous supported housing due to fighting but with me he seems to understand when hes doing wrong. Ive learned so much from him and aspergers but each person with aspergers or autism is different, no 2 people with it is the same. I hope this has helped somewhat and I hope I havent offended anyone.xox |
i have aspergers had a meltdown today over a minor routine change realy upset me as i live in a supported house i had a telling off for shouting, throwing things and generally being abusive i cry a lot too when things like that happen
College is very stressful Feel free to pm me with some questions currently have no focus |
Hey everyone! Thanks for your replies! I handed my script in (the first 15 pages of it :whistling: ) so im gonna let it sit for a while.
but im definitely going to go back to it and work on it because i want to finish it. a lot of your replies were really helpful and I will definitely be in touch with some of you over the next few months or something. i really appreciate it :-) |
I have Asperger's syndrome. But I am not really up to explaining in detail except that I find conversation hard to follow and sometimes I go mute, and I have hypersensitive senses. I also take things very literally and I find socialising at uni impossible
