Simon Cowell Says "Next Taylor Swift"
 

There's a 12 yr old, local girl (lives near a park I ride my bike in) who Simon Cowell called the "next Taylor Swift" since she writes and plays her own songs. Her name is Grace VanderWaal and she was on "America's Got Talent". She basically taught herself to play ukulele and sing. She uses her own songs in the contest. Most of her friends didn't know she plays and sings. I never watch these shows, and only watched because this kid kept showing up in the paper. I'm not crazy about newer swift stuff and like Grace better. Shes a legit nice kid and not like one of those trained seal type kids who perform with crazed stage parents. Her parents didn't even want to give her a Ukulele when she asked because they figured she wouldn't use it lol

Its funny that the area she is from is kind of "dead zone" as far as suburban New York City radius goes. Its not rural in a primitive way but its on the margins. She's not quite the "noble savage" but she's not "New York" in the ways people might think (for better or worse). She had a lake at home and lots of woods and fields etc. She's fairly intact as kids today go.

On another note - Cowell and Scary Spice are UK. Klum is German and Howie Mandell is Canadian. No American judges on America's Got Talent lol

She won.

You could tell all the stress and expectations (judges basically told her she would win weeks ago) were at the limit.

Cowell said it was the best and most talented show he's done. The ratings were the highest ever

Good singer and a nice kid (her parents broke her in to live performing at a coffee house a few blocks away so I know people who knew her for awhile now)
