Do you flush tampons down the toilet?
I am literally shocked. Jodie claims that one cannot flush tampons down the toilet. I have done so for the past nine years, and assumed that everyone else did too! Google seems to agree more with Jodie, but is not altogether conclusive.
So, do you flush your tampons down the bog? Does anyone know the definitive answer to whether or not it is sensible to flush them? Gentlemen need not answer :p P.S. The poll is anonymous, should you be embarrassed by your tampon disposal behaviours! |
Why do you think there are special bins in public ladies' toilets if not for this reason?
For sanitary towels and tampon wrappers!
No, ALL the sanitary things so in there.
I'm with you Jenna!
Oh dear! If this poll is overwhelmingly not in my favour I shall be ringing my mother to complain about her teachings!!
Edit: yay Amy =D |
I'm sure you're not meant to! Awkward...!
Also, Justiene, now I understand why you were alarmed at the lack of bin provisions in my bathroom at HDH! It annoyed me, but wasn't overwhelming, as I only had wrappers to transport with me to the bin!
I second Jenna and Amy.
Even I know these things do not get flushed down the loo..
Edit - Because it will block up the pipes and stuff like that and then you will have problems. |
Aha, indeed, Jenna, I had forgotten about that.
How did Mike know this and I didn't?????
Maybe i'm too womanly for my own good? :P
So.. Wait.. Where have we all got this idea from that it's fine to do so..?

My Mom always said it was okay to do this too, so it's not just your Mom Jenna :)
I think a lot of people flush tampons, and you don't see all the drains outside people's houses being blocked up. I suppose that might be because they are built to handle lot of paper, and other waste, so mostly I don't really think it causes that much of a problem. I don't know if other people might feel differently though. Edited; Maybe people tell you not to flush any sanity products because people might try to flush sanitary towels, they'd likely cause much more of a problem than flushing tampons, so maybe that's why? |
I used to but then I heard a horror story about a friend doing it at someone else's house and it clogged the toilet... and frankly being the only woman in my house if it happens at home I think I'd be suspected. Oh the embarrassment!
Our work toilet got clogged too and I think similar items were found there. I didn't do it but it was on my shift so pretty sure they blame me which is just awkward. I don't want to ever risk being the icing on the blockage cake! |
Also I'm sure the information sheet inside the box about tampons tells you to not flush them.
I've always been told not to flush them
I remember when I was a youngster and my mum told me about tampons and she said flush but, now they all say on the packet to put in the bin. I pretty much always bin mine but sometimes I forget and flush but Jodie is correct, you are not supposed to flush them.
