http://www.amazon.co.uk/Odd-Girl-Out...98955&s r=8-3 it's sparked off a million thoughts in my head and I'd really recommend it. xxxxxx |
Thanks!
I've just ordered it from the library! [I work in one!] So hopefully it'll come. |
wow, that makes me happy! be sure to post your comments or pm me with your thoughts or whatever, I'd love to share what's been going through my head with someone and I've been writing pages in my notebooks since I started it. I'm so jealous you work in a library!! Although I'm in a uni so that's nearly as good, I get free borrowing rights from the library.

I will do. :) I may have to do an Inter Library Loan if it doesn't come from our consortium.
I was bullied - mobbed - by a large group of girls in my year for 10 years, so it's of deep personal interest to me. |
well i hope it gives you the same hope it's given me, because it suddenly felt like it was ok to be me again. A lot of it is to do with the way women are socialised not to display anger in the traditional ways (ie physical agression) so they develop other, manipulative ways to get to each other and about how this can affect the individual and their future relationships and things. I'm only about 120 pages in at the moment but I'm finding it really good.

Thanks again. :)

Out Of The Dark is a good read. |
Reading The Bachman Books. a collection of Stephen King's short stories when he wrote under his pen name. Currently on Roadwork. really interesting so far as you follow the character's so spiralling drop into madness.
|
Beyond Good And Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche.
|
i bought Cathy's book last night, i thought i'd like it. i read about 20 pages of it. it sucks.
|
Get Well Soon by Julie Halpern
About a girl in a psychiatric hospital, it adds a humerous twist while explaining her struggles. Skinny by Ibi Kaslik Told from the perspective of both an anorexic sufferer and her sister. Made me re-think a lot of things. |
I have nearly finished Michael Palin's New Europe book
Didn't think I would enjoy it, as I am not really into that sort of thing but it's been really interesting. |

Just read Junk by Melvin Burgess and now I'm reading But Inside I'm Screaming which is a really good book about a woman who has a great job and a seemingly perfect life until she breaks down on live TV (shes a news reporter) and tried to kill herself, she then gets sent to a mental hospital.

I've just re-read 1984 and Animal Farm by George Orwell, I started re-reading The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks and the bus today and for some reason I'm also currently re-reading all the Harry Potter books - I'm on the third currently.
I don't know why I'm doing so much re-reading at the moment, I shall get started on something new next! Probably The Bell by Murdoch, as I've got it sitting on my 'unread' pile and it looks very interesting. |
I might start Girl, Interrupted again
|
^^ I just finished reading that for the 3rd or 4th time. I love that book, it just makes so much sense.
|
The Black Dahlia. It's weird.

I'm reading a kiddy book called Varjak Paw, about a cat who does martial arts. It's got some lovely illustrations and I've really enjoyed it so far.
xxxxxxx |
I'm reading Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen. Why does life always seem so much more endearing back then?
|
Candide by Voltaire. <3...I love Voltaire. He was the master of dark humor. And, as far as classic literature goes, Candide is not a hard read...but it also depends on the translation. The language is simplistic but the morals complex. Ultimate read for anyone interested in philosophy, politics, or just intelligence.
|
I'm reading '"Son" A Psychopath and His Victims' by Jack Olsen. It freaks me out because it's a true story about a rapist who lived in the same city I live in, only about 30 years ago. I can just see all the places he describes in my head because I've been to all of them, and AGGHH. It's just weird.
|
i just finished little women (part1) & smashed: growing up a drunk girl this week.
i don't know what i'm going to read next. i might finish northern lights because i read half of it about a month ago. |
I've just finished '100 Years Of Medical Murder', and I've just started 'A Memory Of All That' and 'Infamous Murderers'. =]
