Triggering *sexual abuse & murder*

lovely bones by Alice Sebold
Triggering *sexual abuse & murder*

It is the story of a teenage girl who, after being brutally raped and murdered, watches from heaven as her family and friends go on with their lives, while she herself comes to terms with her own death.

it should be sad but it is beautiful her discription of heaven reallly captured my heart and it is a tear jerker as you see how her family deal with it in their seperate ways!

im only on chapter 4 and i cant put it down

I'm reading Marked by PC Cast.

Its trilogy of Vampire books but so far, I'm really enjoying it.
Its written so differently than I'm used to, with alot of text in brackets
for the thoughts of the main character, Zoe but its really good.

Yume.No.Chikara 20-07-2008 04:59 PM

Finally finished the state of africa by Martin Meredith!! It was really really intresting but pretty heavy going, definitly worth the effort though if you are intested in African history and why Africa is in the situation it is in today!

Useless Information 101 21-07-2008 08:23 PM

I have a couple chapters to go on the Watchmen, and now Ive started The Ridiculous Race.

Its hilarious, its a true account of two friends who bet each other that they could race around the world the fastest without using airplanes. It bounces back and forth between the two narrators and its all about their little anecdotes in these places. Its great so far.

I just read a book called Not Without My Sister.
Its about these three girls who were born into a cult and they're constantly struggling with the cult life and are eventually trying to escape from the grasp of this cult..
Its actually a true story and its really sad.

Ghostface 27-07-2008 12:19 PM

I adore that book totally and completely! Khaled Hossain is a genious!! Have you read the kite runner? Its fab too, though i think a thousand splendid suns is better!

Just finished The Songlines by Bruce Chatwin! The travel writing bit was really good, really intresting, its about the aboriginal songlines in Aus, I wish I had read it when I was there! Anyway the downside was these random chunks of quotes from previous travel experiences that he would randomly plonk in the middle of chapters which went on forever! In the end I just skipped those bits...was still worth reading though!

I almost bought that book but instead bought 'Dry' by Augusten Burroughs, which is kind of like the guy's life after the end of 'Running With Scissors' when he's struggling with alcoholism and stuff.

Breadsticks 28-07-2008 09:01 PM

I've just finished Poppy Shakespeare by I can't remember! But if anyone else has read it, could they explain to me what happened in the end? I got REALLY confused!! Overall it was an okay book,, I only got it after watching it on TV. Nothing special though.

I've been meaning to read that for a while - is it any good?

Yesterday I read 'Life Support'. I can't remember who it's by, and I can't be bothered finding out. But it was surprisingly good - I actually couldn't put it down!

I think I might read 'My Cousin Rachel' by Daphne du Maurier next, since I've had it for ages and haven't started it.

Yes! That's it, thank you.

But I'm done reading both of those books now, and I'm on to Thr3e by Ted Dekker, Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz, and the third Harry Potter book (again).

I can never just read one at a time.
