trigger warning
i have been self mutilating since i was 12 i am 20 now. my soon to be husband is vary supportive but i seem to be missing a strong supporter in my life. i cut and hurt myself to stop the memories from my past. memories i do not want to remember or talk about

Sorry you're having such a difficult time. What would you define as the qualities of a strong supporter? What do you think you need? It's hard when you have painful past memories, they will keep coming back until you meet them head on with some support. Would you consider seeing a therapist to gently and slowly start to explore your feelings?

I've found that I'm better off when I focus on creating a network of multiple supporters who have different strengths and availabilities rather than trying to find one super-supporter. Even a super supporter can't be available all the time, and if they are your only resource, if they are busy, you are out of luck.
